Zoot Suits
Extremely popular among the youth, Mexicans and African Americans, they were baggy suits
The outfits consisted of a broad-rimmed, flat hat, a long draped coat, high- waisted, baggy-legged trousers with tight-fitting pegged cuffs. A lot of people thought that the outfit had excessive fabric and during war it was seen as disrespectful or un-patriotic because they materials were supposed to be salvaged for war. Mexican Americans had to face a lot of abuse, police harassed and arrested many because of their race. Americans were still extremely concerned with any foreigners in the US because of communism, and were quick to harass or arrest members wearing the zoot suits.
Ratoning Coupons
War ration books and tokens were given to each family, and they dictated how much/many products could be purchased. These products included gasoline, sugar, meat, silk, shoes, nylon. Across the country, 8,000 rationing boards were created to give out the coupons. Types of rationing included uniform coupon rationing (sugar) and it provided equal shares of a single product to all consumers. Point rationing provided equivalent amounts of product by point value (Processed foods, meats, fat, cheese). Lastly, certificate rationing was only administered to those after an application process and was given on a need basis(tires, cars, stoves, refrigerators).

The Second New Deal
Roosevelt proposed a second new deal which only received much criticism. Right believed that it imposed too many regulations on buisness whereas the left believed the new deal expanded federal governemtn vs. states rights. Roosevelt began borrowing money to pay for his new programs, and there was argument over where the wealth should be distributed.
WPA
Works progress administration began buiding highways, roads and bridges and put artists to work making murals, symhony orchestras and interviews for the said artists. This was a boost for the economy and part of FDR's second new deal.
Political
Blitzkrieg
New type of warfare used by Germans, it was known as “lightening war.” They used large amounts of massed tanks to break through and encircle enemies through dependence on radios to coordinate the tanks and air crafts. This tactic made Germany have the upper hand over Poland. The invasion on Poland sparks war.
The United Nations
The United States chooses not to join the league of nations, and instead becomes one of five world powers to join the UN. All countries involved wanted to work together to keep the peace, and agreed to use force if necessary to ordain that. The United Nations is caused by Germanys decision to invade other countries and Britian and France appeased Hitler. This is still used today to resolve world issues.

How does World War II lead into the 1950's?
After the war is over, we see new reforms starting to take place with the second new deal. This sets up for all of the progress made by President Eisenhower, and for the proposals to stop communism in Berlin. I wouldn't call us getting involved with WWII a time of progress, we vowed to stay "isolationists" but again chose to get involved in issues that are not our own.

I chose the two pictures above because:
the one on the left shows agreements being made between labor and industry organizations. This shows that we were making some sort of positive adjustments despite the war.
the picture on the right is an example of what the rationing coupons were, and I wanted a visual to backup the term.
